The importance of this time of year for gardening is often underestimated It is the only time when a gardener can take accurate stock of their garden.
Planting corrections and changes are much easier at this time of year. Use this time to plan your future planting program to fit in with your favourite specimens.
Some key jobs for February include -
Pruning - February should also be a busy month for pruning. Dogwoods, Lavatera, Willows, Cotinus, Hydrangea and hardy fuchsia need some attention at this time of year. February is also an ideal time to plant your Raspberry canes and prune out your Gooseberry bushes.
Clean Ponds - Clean out leaves and fallen twigs if the pond is not iced over. If leaves are left to rot in the pond the gases released can be dangerous to fish.
