| They are suitable for planting in most types of fertile and well drained soil. Plant in a sunny location as they do not prosper too well in the shade. If possible prepare the ground some time in advance of planting. Open out holes and plant with enough space to accommodate the roots without cramping them. Provide a stake to help support the shrub in its early years, protecting it from strong winter winds. Mulch during cold/frost and water freely. |

I started growing this tree in a pot on my landing on the 3rd floor. My landlord told me I had to remove the tree due to health and Safety Laws.So lastJune I planted this new tree into my newly found local garden. Its now about six feet tall with the most beautiful reddish bark and shiney leaves.Cherry trees are like no other tree in their beauty. The blossom on this tree is white and delicate.I look foward to my first crop of black cherries. My favourite fruit! My friend in Highgate is growing the same tree on his balcony and its smaller than mine but very pretty. We fret over and pamper our trees.I will keep you posted regarding the development of the fruit on these trees!
