0:00 Now if you're a gardener, you're an optimist and why well you're always looking to the

0:04 future you're always growing for the next season I mean we've got mid-january

0:08 cold outside, short days but spring is coming, so you've got a plan for it now

0:15 Aubrieta to give that purple-blue great big splashes of color in your

0:20 garden it's really a rockery plant it's really an Alpine and it's like certain

0:28 things now the things it like a drainage grit don't leave the wall to stand in

0:33 anywhere near it because it will hate that so in a pot like this and you can

0:39 plant them in a pot they're perfectly good in a pot you can grow them out in

0:42 your rock early button pops like this they're very very good. Mix fifty-fifty

0:46 multi-purpose compost and Alpine grit now it's just it's as easy as that I've

0:53 got the compost in already it, mix the Alpine grit in with that and we're ready

1:03 to go just give it a good mix up you can hear it crunch beautiful now it couldn't

1:11 be any simpler than that so you put the big pebbles in the bottom to allow for

1:16 drainage so it drains away we've got a drain the waterway it likes moist it

1:20 likes damp but it doesn't like wet so let the moisture drain away so we fill

1:26 up the pot and simply going to need a little bit more there it's quite a big

1:37 pot the bag was too heavy to lift to start with so there we go. 50/50

1:47 now you're not making a cake so near enough's good enough but this is all it

1:54 needs and then now they come in collections of groups of 12 now I've

2:00 got 12 which will go perfectly in this pot now that's good that's it a good

2:06 50/50 mix there now a while back in Cambridgeshire I went to

2:10 a place called good ales and they grew these six centimeter plugs they are

2:16 magnificent that Aubrieta is bursting to go even in January so get it

2:21 in you just plant it like that not too firm not too tight just a nice, use two

2:27 digits this time, you know there's no special equipment just plan that up and

2:34 I can promise you that this pot these Aubrietas are going to cascade over

2:41 this and that will just be one mass of purple blue it will be absolutely

2:47 beautiful and always looking to the future you see that's what gardeners do

2:52 and that's why they're eternal optimists I could do two pots with this twelve

2:58 easily that's beautiful that's lovely and then all you need to do, no water I

3:07 mean there's plenty of moisture in the in the pebbles and the compost and then

3:10 all you need to do is just top dress it just top it top dress it with the

3:17 grit now this stops the water when it rains and the moisture sitting around

3:24 the neck of the plant because that's where absolutely hates the water to be

3:29 so you can see the drainage is fierce and they'll they'll try perfectly well

3:34 those will grow year after year now it couldn't be any more difficult than that

3:41 these will grow quite happily year after year and give you endless amounts of

3:46 pleasure the only thing once it flowered then

3:49 they have a lot of mass of flower when they flowered they die back and they

3:55 that dead Folies need to cutting back but other than that they look after

3:59 themselves now this is the purple one but this a beautiful one called Red

4:03 Cascade, well worth looking out for and I might and I get a selection of those and

4:11 put them in a pot so there you go so simple as that don't think this any

4:15 mythology attached to any of this it's easy simple, above all beautiful
