Product Description

Similar in appearance to the Beech Hedge, the Carpinus Betulus Fastigiata or European Hornbeam Hedge is one of the most popular varieties of hedging shrub, suitable for both formal and country barriers. However, unlike the Beech, the hardy and resilient Hornbeam can tolerate damp, shady and exposed sites making it an excellent choice for the windbreak hedgerow. A dense and vigorous grower, it will successfully retain its copper brown leaves in their dry state throughout the winter, and will grow to a mature height of three metres which ensures year round privacy for your garden as well as reliable shelter for wildlife during the colder months. Come spring, the European Hornbeam will yield a densely packed covering of deeply veined green leaves, also producing delicate catkins later in the year for added interest. We recommend that individual plants are planted 30-40cm apart. 15 plants will make a 4m long hedge. Supplied as 40-60cm loose rooted plants.
