A prestigious winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, Carpinus japonica is a beautiful deciduous tree grown for its combination of smooth pink/grey bark, its heavily corrugated foliage and attractive fruiting catkins (in autumn) which resemble hops. Growing 5-10m tall, they are a superb investment that will really make an impact that is impossible to ignore. Hardy in all parts of the UK, the green foliage in spring turns yellow as autumn appears. Supplied at approx 30-40cm tall, in a 1.5 litre pot. Also known as the Japanese hornebeam, it will thrive in most soil types especially in chalk or clay soil.
