Product Description

The Clematis viticella 'Madame Julia Correvon' is a traditional favourite for many gardeners. A compact variety that produces a spectacular display of stunning bright red star-shaped flowers accompanied by striking yellow anthers. A hardy plant, ideal for decorating fences, archways and trellis; they reach a height of 3m but can be grown and pruned in patio containers for gardeners with less space. Flowering from July through to September, this plant will appeal to butterflies, inviting them into the garden. We recommend planting in sunny or partially shaded areas in fertile, well-drained soil where these mesmerising flowers will flourish. Tall 7cm pot plants supplied.

Growing at a glance…

Clematis are vigorous climbing plants that reach various heights and spreads. Its best to prune back to keep control over the growth annually and initially they should be tied in to help direct the new growth. Apply a liquid fertiliser each year during the growing season, and water regularly during hot periods.Clematis can be planted October-May in areas with good drainage and plenty of sun is preferable. Soak in a bucket of water prior to planting and plant deep enough to allow plenty of room for root development. The roots of clematis like to be kept cool so it's a good idea to plant amongst low growing shrubs or bedding plants. If planting in containers, ensure the pot is large enough to allow the roots to expand/develop, as limitation of roots will certainly impede future success.
