Product Description

The President' is a large flowering Clematis variety which boasts sumptuous blue-purple star-shaped flowers with huge wavy overlapping petals that reach a diameter of 18cm. Each petal is adorned with a faint reddish colour down the centre with an eye-catching central ball of anthers which are white tipped with red, providing further interest. These hardy plants are a holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit and reach a mature height of 2.5m but can be cut back to be more manageable dependant on the size of garden. These busy plants are excellent climbers and begin to flower from June through to August where they can be planted in hanging baskets or containers for mixing with other plants. For a more traditional approach, we recommend training up a trellis or pyramid for a more dramatic display. 30-35cm plants supplied in a 9cm pot.

Growing at a glance…

Clematis are vigorous climbing plants that reach various heights and spreads. Its best to prune back to keep control over the growth annually and initially they should be tied in to help direct the new growth. Apply a liquid fertiliser each year during the growing season, and water regularly during hot periods.Clematis can be planted October-May in areas with good drainage and plenty of sun is preferable. Soak in a bucket of water prior to planting and plant deep enough to allow plenty of room for root development. The roots of clematis like to be keptcool so it is a good idea to plant amongst low growing shrubs or bedding plants. If planting in containers, ensure the pot is large enough to allow the roots to expand/develop, as limitation of roots will certainly impede future success.
