This fantastic thistle like plant has edible flowers, similar to an Artichoke in flavour and is a terrific choice if you're looking for something a bit unusual for the border display, can also be used as an excellent cut flower. Boasts an Award of Garden Merit. Its spiky silver-grey foliage sets off vibrant purple flower heads up to 8cm in diameter. Native to western and Mediterranean regions, the leaf stalks are considered a delicacy in Spain, where they are served blanched or braised. With its eventual Height 1.5, and Spread 1.4m, this is better suited to the back of the border, given plenty of space for the roots to develop it will flower from June to September. For best results pick area in full sun sheltered from strong winds. First grade loose roots supplied.
