Product Description
Graceful and architectural, Lysimachia clethroides is best recognised for its distinctive, gently arching flower spikes that curve elegantly at the tip, creating the characteristic “gooseneck” effect. From mid-summer into early autumn, dense clusters of small white flowers open sequentially along each stem, producing movement and rhythm within the border. The clean white tones stand out beautifully against mid- to late-season planting and bring a fresh lift to established schemes.
Typically reaching up to a metre in height and forming a broad, gradually spreading clump, Lysimachia clethroides is especially effective towards the middle or rear of mixed borders where its strong vertical lines can be appreciated. It performs best in fertile, moisture-retentive yet well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade, where it establishes with vigour and returns reliably year after year.
Its fluid form contrasts well with rounded flower heads and looser planting styles; pair with Echinacea, Persicaria, ornamental grasses or deep-toned foliage plants to highlight the curvature of the blooms. Equally effective in naturalistic schemes or more structured designs, Lysimachia clethroides provides height, texture and sustained summer presence, while also offering useful material for cutting.

Growing at a glance…
Best to position in full sun, but can also tolerate partial shade, and allow plenty of room as it can be invasive. Plant in well dug prepared soil. Suitable for the middle or rear of mixed borders . Water when their soil feels dry to touch, particularly in warm bouts of weather in the early morning or late evening once the sun has set. Take some care to prevent slugs and snails from attacking the Lysimachia once planted.
