Growing at a glance…

Unpack your plants immediately upon arrival and give them a little water if they feel a bit dry. Pot on for 2-3 weeks before planting them out into their final positions outdoors. Alternatively, you can plant these plugs directly outdoors if the weather permits (all risk of frost is gone). Water these plants freely during the growing season and make sure to dead-head spent flowers regularly to prolong their display.

When to Plant

Million Bells, or Calibrachoa, are best planted out in the spring. Ensure there is no further danger of frost before planting as it won’t last till summer.

Where to Plant

This mixture is perfect for planting in any space around the garden. Their compact habit makes it ideal for borders and bed-sides, as well as in containers and hanging baskets. Simply ensure their soil is well-drained and not to water-log it by overwatering.

How to Plant

Versatile, easy to plant and simple to grow, hanging baskets add long-lasting colour, texture and interest to patios, doorways and balconies; the perfect accessory in the summer garden! And planting them is even easier. This mixture is supplied as a 3cm jumbo plug, which allows you to plant straight out into the garden as long as all threat of frost has gone. Ensure soil is well-drained and free of weeds.

Planting for Hanging Baskets

Cut some holes into the basket liner around 5cm above the base and fill it with multipurpose compost. Place your biggest plants in the middle and smaller varieties on the outside, or trailing plants around the edge. Ensure you water them regularly, especially during warm weather. This is best done in the mornings before the sun rises and dries out the compost.

Plant Care

Million bells are self-cleaning, meaning that you don’t have to regularly deadhead them as they bloom. In fact, they actually drop their flowers themselves once they’ve died back. Ensure they’re positioned in a lightly-shaded spot in the garden and are watered well once in bloom.

Companion Plants
