Product Description

Scarlet Queen Elizabeth Rose produces glamorous scarlet red flowers. Lush, dark green foliage provides the backdrop to these fabulous blooms, that appear throughout the whole of summer and autumn. Rose 'Scarlet Queen' is an easy to grow, reliable variety that also provides a slight fragrance. It is ideal for the vase as it has few thorns on its stems, as well as being perfect for containers or the border. Height 150cm and spread 60cm. Please note: Fragrant rose's perfume is usually the most potent on warm, sunny days, while sat in moist soil. Its important to imitate these conditions, as it will release the fragrant chemicals within the flowers. High humidity increases the longevity of the fragrance as it reduces the chance of the chemicals evaporating.

Growing at a glance…

Roses should be planted firmly, to ensure that wind will not disrupt the roots. Apply a balanced fertiliser every 3-4 weeks in the spring/summer, and apply a mulch in the winter for protection. Can be pruned back to remove any dead wood or growth. It is best to plant roses in winter or early spring, provided there is little frost. To prepare your bare rose roots, soak them in a bucket of water for an hour to 24 hours (longer in spring). Then, dig a hole large enough to house the roots when fully outspread. Distribute the roots evenly around the hole and put in a little bit of fine soil to which has been added a small amount of bonemeal. Fill in with the rest of the soil over the roots and tread in firmly. The depth of planting roses will vary between 10-20cm, or as deep as they were in their pots.
