Product Description

A brilliant red version of the popular polyantha Rose The Fairy. The blooms provide double petals with a wide-open form that shows off its many layers of petals. The stunning Rose Red blooms create a beautiful contrast against the glossy, dark green foliage. The Fairy Rose are undemanding and flower perpetually for a long time, producing clusters of blooms well into the Autumn. This attractive variety is ideal for adding to summer flower arrangements and makes a wonderful addition to sunny borders and rose gardens as they are highly fragrant. Flowers July to September. Reaches a mature height of 40cm. Bare rooted plants supplied. Please note: Fragrant rose's perfume is usually the most potent on warm, sunny days, while sat in moist soil. Its important to imitate these conditions, as it will release the fragrant chemicals within the flowers. High humidity increases the longevity of the fragrance as it reduces the chance of the chemicals evaporating.

Planting Notes

Soil Type Fertile, well drained soil

Growing at a glance…

Roses should be planted firmly, to ensure that wind will not disrupt the roots. Apply a balanced fertiliser every 3-4 weeks in the spring/summer, and apply a mulch in the winter for protection. Can be pruned back to remove any dead wood or growth. It is best to plant roses in winter or early spring, provided there is little frost. To prepare your bare rose roots, soak them in a bucket of water for an hour to 24 hours (longer in spring). Then, dig a hole large enough to house the roots when fully outspread. Distribute the roots evenly around the hole and put in a little bit of fine soil to which has been added a small amount of bonemeal. Fill in with the rest of the soil over the roots and tread in firmly. The depth of planting roses will vary between 10-20cm, or as deep as they were in their pots.
