0:05 hi I'm Hannah and I work for J Parkers

0:07 today I'm going to talk to you about

0:08 dahlias so dailies are incredible

0:10 flowers and they will flower all summer

0:12 long as long as you keep deadhead in

0:13 them

Lifting your Dahlias
0:16 what do you do in the Autumn when they

0:18 start to die back so I thought I'd

0:21 explain to you how you should lift them

0:22 and store them over winter so

0:25 when they start to die back all the

0:28 foliage will start to go yellow and

0:30 it'll all sort of fall over after it's

0:33 done that it's important to then lift

0:36 them but if you do it too soon there

0:38 won't be enough nutrient that's been

0:40 brought back into the tuber and your

0:42 dailies won't be as good next year so

0:44 you need to wait for that to happen

0:45 before you lift them and so what you can

0:47 do is cut all of the of this year's

0:49 growth off lift them out of the ground

0:53 and then you need to store them so the

Storing your Dahlias
0:55 best place to store them is in a cool

0:57 dark place like a shed or a garage and

1:00 you need to allow them to completely dry

1:03 out so it's recommended that you either

Keeping your Dahlias dry
1:05 store them in paper bags and to keep any

1:08 moisture out or big tubs filled with

1:12 sawdust and I know that a lot of the big

1:13 Gardens will will do it that way and

1:16 because it stops any moisture getting

1:17 into the tuber and you don't want them

1:18 to rotter rot off over winter it's also

1:21 important that your shed or garage is

1:24 frost free if it isn't that will kill

1:26 them over the winter

Summary
1:28 so as I say cool dark place and keep

1:32 them completely dark and throughout

1:34 winter and then in the spring as soon as

1:35 the frost is passed you can then replant

1:38 them and then you should have dahlias

1:39 coming up over the summer
