Product Description
Beni Maiko is a striking dwarf Maple which produces fire-red leaves in early spring. As they mature, the leaves appear lighter and more feathery in texture, the fiery red changes to a pinkish-red with green undertones (illustrated), with the main vei ns remaining red. In autumn, leaves turn a deep pinkish-red which spreads to the centre of the leaf until the whole leaf lights up. The combination of three-lobed and five-lobed leaves makes Beni Maiko truly special. In Japan, Beni Maiko is considere d the most brilliant of all the Maples, and in 2012 won the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Eventual height after 10 years 1.2m. Growing at a glance…
Acers should be watered on a regular basis, which will be even more important in hot Summers. Although its not necessary, you can prune back or cut dead wood in Spring. Plant in fertile, well drained and moist soil. Acer shrubs prefer sunny or partial shaded areas, and can also be grown in pots. If growing in pots make sure that the pot is large enough to support the shrub and that it also has plenty of drainageholes. Use John Innes compost if planting in pots.
