The name Gloxinia was given in honour of Benjamin Peter Gloxin, a French botanical writer working at the end of the eighteenth century. Gloxinia have broad mid-green leaves with intricate scalloped edges which provide a contrasting bed of foliage for these cup-shaped deep purple blooms. While already looking highly unusual, their individuality is enhanced by the fact that their petals and leaves feel like velvet. We recommend planting in pots for the patio; however the Gloxinia is so easy to grow that it is happy enough sat on the windowsill or in the conservatory. Top size 5cm+ tubers supplied. Flowers July to September. Height 50cm
