Clusters of tiny, pinkish-lilac flowers surrounded by a rosette of papery, petal-like bracteoles veined at the tip with deep violet. Commonly known as 'greater masterwort?, or 'melancholy gentleman?, Astrantia are a distinctive and extremely photogenic plant, flowering June to August and also producing elegant, wiry stems and mounds of deep green foliage. Masterwort is a as popular a cut flower as it is a bedding plant, so we recommend planting more that you need in the garden to ensure an abundance are left for striking bouquets and vases. They are happiest in dappled shade and prefer moist, humus-rich soil. Height 50-60cm. Supplied as first grade loose roots.
