The Maples Care Home Project - Two Year Update

At the beginning of 2020, we partnered up with Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust to provide the Worsley-based Maples care home with a complete garden makeover!

Two years later, their outdoor space has been transformed, with hours of hard work put into planting every flower, rejuvenating every fence, and pruning every shrub. They now have two beautiful low-maintenance gardens for staff, residents and visitors to enjoy throughout the year.

NorthCare & The Maples

The Maples care home is run and funded by the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust. They admit patients with long-term neurological conditions (brain and spinal), providing them with around-the-clock care.

Their gardens have been left to their own devices for a few years, unused and unloved. But not anymore!

The Project

The Maples’ gardens were slightly worn and unused, certainly not the welcoming space that you see today.

Our combined vision for this project was to breathe a new lease of life into the front and back garden. With low-maintenance flower beds, a shaded pergola, and plenty of spots to sit back and relax, these gardens have come a long way since we first started the project.

Their front and back gardens were our focus over the duration. The front garden now gives staff and visitors a calming space to unwind. Their back garden offers the same, for residents, staff, and visitors. Low-maintenance raised planters can be seen around both gardens, each full of easy-to-maintain plants to ensure that they’ll thrive even if left on their own for a week or two. An access-friendly gazebo was installed, providing residents with shelter from the elements while enjoying the outdoors.

We also planted height-specific plants in the flower beds so patients can access them with ease. Overgrown areas are no longer an eye-sore, and every surface has been given a good clean and polish to give it that final flourish.

Karen Casper, Fundraising Officer for NorthCare Charity, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to J. Parker’s for going above and beyond with their support of the project

“Watching their dedication over the last two years has been incredible, and we have already seen the positive impact these new spaces have had on patients and staff now they are in use. We’re so excited to work with J. Parker’s in the future to continue making a huge difference.”

We hope the new gardens become a go-to spot for residents and staff to relax and unwind! With summer on the way, all those new bedding plants will bloom, giving the space that extra splash of colour. J. Parker’s will continue to work with NorthCare on exciting projects in the future, so watch this space.
