What to Plant with Daffodils
Wondering what blooms to plant with your new daffodils? There’s an amazing range of seasonal plants to partner with your favourite daffodils and narcissi bulbs.
Daffodils herald the spring season, flowering as early as February (for some varieties!). However, they’re not alone, and partner planting helps you to create an impressive display that’s easy to achieve. Here are our favourite daffodil planting partners you should try this coming spring.
For early blooming daffodils
Early blooming daffodils can flower as early as February and March. These partners are more limited with what they can be grown with, but you have a few amazing options.
Crocus
Crocus bulbs are gorgeous, and compact in size. Plant your favourite early flowering crocus (double check their flowering time, as some can be autumn flowering) with your picked-out daffodils for a harmonious early spring display.
Muscari
Similar to Crocus, Muscari is another great early spring partner plant. They’re also quite compact and will look superb next to your daffodils within a bed or container.
For Mid to Late Flowering Daffodils
These would be your March to April flowering tulip varieties. They're perfect for partnering with your more traditional spring blooms, like tulips, as they can handle slightly warmer spring weather. Here's a few of our favourite plants to grow with our daffodils.
Tulips
Tulips are a staple of any spring display! We love seeing your tulip and daffodil combos and our experts love them too.
Primulas
Like tulips, primulas add a splash of colour to the flower bed that would otherwise be quite monochrome with solo daffodils. Varieties like primula denticulata and vialii are gorgeous with daffodils.
Fritillaria
If you’re after something a bit more exotic, then fritillaria provides that aesthetic throughout late spring to early summer. A gorgeous addition to your daffodil displays.
Winter jasmine
Last on our list (but definitely not least) is winter jasmine! This early-flowering shrub will produce blooms up to April, making a gorgeous backdrop for your bright and beautiful daffodils. Plus, winter jasmine is highly fragrant, which makes us love it that much more.
