Product Description

For adding understated elegance to shady gardens, our Astilbe ‘Erika’ is a perfect choice. This dark-leaved herbaceous perennial blooms in early summer, showing off its soft pink, plume-like flowers. Rising above glossy, rich green foliage, the compact and sturdy ‘Erika’ adds refined texture and gentle colour to borders, containers or damp woodland edges.

‘Erika’ is well-adapted to moist, humus-rich soil and partial to full shade, making it ideal for shady, damp spots where its fern-like leaves add lush depth. The foliage emerges red-bronze in spring before maturing to glossy green, providing multi-seasonal interest. Pollinator-friendly and resistant to deer and rabbits, it quietly supports biodiversity without fuss.

Pair this Astilbe ‘Erika’ with Fern, Hosta or Hellebore varieties for a layered, textured display that enhances shaded spots with contrasting shapes and soft pastel tones. This clump-forming perennial spreads slowly and benefits from division every few years to maintain vigour and shape.

Growing at a glance…

Astilbes are often chosen for borders due to their gorgeous colour and short stature. If clumps become too large for the space, you can divide and replant in fresh soil in Autumn. Plant in well dug, prepared soil, and add a little manure or organic matter if possible. Astilbes thrive in damp locations, particularly at the edge of a pond, but are also great for containers or borders. Soak roots in a bucket of water for 2-3 hours before planting. Dig a hole in the border that’s big enough to house the root system. Firm in gently and water well.
