Dahlia Mignon Bishop of Leicester will not only produce very attractive pink flowers with cheery yellow centres, it has wonderful dark foliage which makes a great contrast. The flowers are produced in abundance from June-October and they perfer to be planted in a sunny location, either in a border or patio containers. The single open nature of its blooms make it an excellent late source of nectar for bees and butterflies, and other pollinating insects. Growing at a glance…

Dahlia tubers can be planted outdoors, 10cm deep in fertile well-drained soil in spring when the frost has disappeared. They prefer to be in a sunny location and spaced at approximately 45cm apart. In areas where there is extreme cold, dig up dahlias and store in potting compost over the winter. Apply a high potash fertiliser every few weeks in the summer to help growth. Dead head when necessary.
