Product Description
With near-black buds and richly coloured blooms, Agapanthus ‘Midnight Cascade’ brings vertical drama and bold contrast to summer borders and containers. From July to September, it produces deep purple-black, funnel-shaped flowers that stand out against lighter companions and vibrant foliage.
Growing to approximately 80 cm tall, this Agapanthus cultivar forms dense clumps of narrow, strap-like foliage. It prefers a position in full sun with well-drained soil and benefits from shelter to reduce wind stress, which can damage its tall flower stems. While hardy, applying a winter mulch will help protect the root zone in colder climates and support earlier spring growth.
Its inky, elegant flowers pair beautifully with lighter perennials such as Achillea ‘Moonshine’ or ornamental grasses, enhancing both colour contrast and textural interest throughout the season. The long-lasting blooms also make excellent cut flowers, adding depth and drama to indoor arrangements without fading quickly.

Growing at a glance…
To plant loose rooted agapanthus, start by soaking the roots in a bucket of water for 1-2 hours beforehand. Then, dig a hole in the border that’s big enough to house the root system. If you’re planting them in pots, then fill a large pot halfway with soil, adding the crown of the plant pointing upwards. Ensure the crown is just below the soil. Water well once planted. Loose rooted agapanthus should be planted in spring directly into the garden somewhere that gets plenty of sunshine.
