Product Description
Make a bold statement with Agapanthus ‘Northern Star’, a hardy perennial that brings height, colour and texture to borders and containers. This standout variety grows up to a metre tall, with strap-like green leaves marked by deep purple at the base.
From mid to late summer, ‘Northern Star’ produces elegant, bell-shaped flowers in rich shades of blue-purple, held on upright stems. Its blooms can arch gracefully over container edges, softening lines and adding movement to patios.
Best planted in a sunny, sheltered spot with moist but well-drained soil, ‘Northern Star’ is hardy but may need protection in exposed gardens. It also thrives in pots, making it easy to move indoors for winter. For a dramatic and textured display, pair it with Salvia or Eryngium.

Growing at a glance…
To plant loose rooted agapanthus, start by soaking the roots in a bucket of water for 1-2 hours beforehand. Then, dig a hole in the border that’s big enough to house the root system. If you’re planting them in pots, then fill a large pot halfway with soil, adding the crown of the plant pointing upwards. Ensure the crown is just below the soil. Water well once planted. Loose rooted agapanthus should be planted in spring directly into the garden somewhere that gets plenty of sunshine.
Our agapanthus potted plants can be grown directly outside in the border or into a container on arrival. Dig a hole that’s big enough to house the root system in your desired planting spot, at the same depth as they are in their pot. Wedge the plant in by adding soil to the gaps left, firming the plant down gently to ensure it’s in place. These perennials will flower from early summer through to mid-autumn. Mulch well with compost or organic matter for winter protection. Position in full sun or partial shade.
