Product Description
Aster novi-belgii Blue is a clump-forming herbaceous perennial, part of the diverse Michaelmas daisy group. Its abundant, lavender-blue flowers appear in late summer and continue well into autumn, each one neatly daisy-shaped with a soft yellow eye. Blooms are carried on upright stems, framed by narrow, lance-shaped foliage, forming a bushy habit that brings strong vertical structure to planting schemes.
At around 90 cm tall and up to 30 cm across, this Aster variety lends itself well to mixed borders, wildlife gardens, or informal drifts in naturalistic planting. It prefers a position in full sun or partial shade, thriving in fertile, moisture-retentive yet free-draining soils. It performs well on chalk, clay, loam or sand, and will tolerate a range of pH levels provided the site isn’t waterlogged.
Asters like this are appreciated for their reliability and contribution to late-season colour. They attract pollinators, particularly bees and butterflies, and sit comfortably alongside Rudbeckia, Helenium, Sedum or ornamental grasses in layered planting combinations.

Growing at a glance…
Plant in dappled or partially shaded areas in the garden. Can be grown in containers, but should be spaced out well so that they don't fall victim to powdery mildew. If planting out into its final position, dig a hole that holds the root and cover with soil. If it has a noticeable crown, leave this just slightly poking through the soil. Water well through the season and deadhead regularly to keep them looking fresh!
