Product Description

Cherry 'Morello' is a wonderful variety of cherry that creates a fantastic sharp flavour making it a great choice for when eating the fruit fresh but even more so when creating jams, preserves or cakes. The ruby red dark heart-shaped fruit is ready to be harvested from late July to early August and has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit. A hardy and deciduous tree, it will reach a height of five metres but can be pruned in the late winter and early spring. Beautiful fluffy white blossoms create a delightful sight during spring that encourages pollinators into the garden, however the flowers will need protection from frost as any damage will impact on the fruit. It will flourish in well-drained soil in a sunny area and can be trained against a wall or fence or simply grown into a small bushy headed tree. Two-year-old trees grafted onto dwarf Colt root stock supplied.

Growing at a glance…

Young trees must be watered thoroughly and sprinkle with fertilizer each spring. You can also mulch in April with rotted manure or compost around the base of the trunk. They should be planted in well sheltered locations. They will blossom and flower in Spring and fruit is normally ready to be picked throughout Autumn.Fruit trees are suitable for planting in most types of moderately fertile, well drained soil, although they do not like acid soil. If possible prepare the ground some time in advance of planting. Open out holes and plant with enough space toaccomodate the roots without cramping them. Plant in a sunny location as they do not prosper too well in the shade. Make sure that you plant with a stake, as this will be needed for at least five years to help support the tree. Netting shouldbe placed over the tree to ensure birds do not damage the trees.
