Product Description

Clematis montana 'Grandiflora' (Montana Alba) produces a dazzling show of huge single, pure white flowers up to 7cm in diameter with a central spray of lemon-yellow stamens above glossy dark green leaves. Flowering from late spring to early summer, this is a very vigorous, dense climber often referred to as the 'mile a minute' Clematis for the speed in which it grows, they are a great choice for trailing up trellises, fencing or railings. Sometimes there is an occasional second flowering season later in the year. These beautiful flowers have a wonderful fragrance so we recommend planting in an area where this can be enjoyed such as the border or patio containers, They can reach a mature height of 3m but we advise pruning to keep it contained to a manageable height. 35-40cm plants supplied in a 9cm pot.

Growing at a glance…

Clematis are vigorous climbing plants that reach various heights and spreads. Its best to prune back to keep control over the growth annually and initially they should be tied in to help direct the new growth. Apply a liquid fertiliser each yearduring the growing season, and water regularly during hot periods.Clematis can be planted October-May in areas with good drainage and plenty of sun is preferable. Soak in a bucket of water prior to planting and plant deep enough to allow plenty of room for root development. The roots of clematis like to be keptcool so it is a good idea to plant amongst low growing shrubs or bedding plants. If planting in containers, ensure the pot is large enough to allow the roots to expand/develop, as limitation of roots will certainly impede future success.
