Product Description

The Clematis 'Etoile Violette', is wonderful climber that will produce a profusion of stunning deep purple flowers with creamy-yellow stamens. This eye-catching flower is robust and will cover trellis and archways quickly, flowering from July through to September. It also works well scrambling through trees and other larger shrubs for more of a textured look to your garden. 'Etoile Violette' prefers a sheltered spot, planted in full sun or partial shade, although will tolerate more exposure to windy sites than most Clematis, making it a great choice for coastal locations. We recommend planting in areas where they can be enjoyed that will also welcome pollinators such as butterflies into the area. It has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit due to its outstanding performance in the garden and its good resistance to disease. Tall 7cm pot grown plants supplied.

Growing at a glance…

Clematis are vigorous climbing plants that reach various heights and spreads. Its best to prune back to keep control over the growth annually and initially they should be tied in to help direct the new growth. Apply a liquid fertiliser each year during the growing season, and water regularly during hot periods.Clematis can be planted October-May in areas with good drainage and plenty of sun is preferable. Soak in a bucket of water prior to planting and plant deep enough to allow plenty of room for root development. The roots of clematis like to be kept cool so it's a good idea to plant amongst low growing shrubs or bedding plants. If planting in containers, ensure the pot is large enough to allow the roots to expand/develop, as limitation of roots will certainly impede future success.
