During the Great Depression in 1933, Martin Parker travelled from his hometown of Beverwijk in the Netherlands to England to start a mail-order bulb business. Working alongside his wife Joan, they operated the business from a modest home in Manchester before steadily growing through the 1940s and post-war years.

By the 1950s, Britain's growing enthusiasm for gardening enabled J. Parker's to expand significantly, with farmland acquired in Anwick, Lincolnshire, and Martin's son Christopher joining the business. When the 1971 postal strike threatened operations, the company adapted, recovered and continued to grow under Christopher's leadership.

Having grown up in the family business, Paul Parker officially joined J. Parker's in 1998. Building on decades of growth throughout the 1970s, 80s and 90s, the company embraced new opportunities, including the launch of its website and expansion into a leading national gardening retailer.

Led by the third generation of the Parker family, the business continues to expand and extend its reach. With dedicated operations recently established in Ireland, we now bring quality products to more customers than ever, through online channels, catalogues and garden centres.
