Product Description
Bring bold colour and structure to your garden with Agapanthus ‘Black Jack’, winner of “Plant of the Year” at the 2023 Chelsea Flower Show. Its deep-purple, almost black tubular flowers gather into striking rounded heads, held on sturdy upright stems above clumps of arching, strap-like green foliage. The rich colouring and architectural form make it an eye-catching choice for borders, patios and containers.
Flowering from July to September, ‘Black Jack’ can reach a mature height of around a metre and a spread of 50 cm. Plant in full sun, ideally in a sheltered position, and fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Once established, it offers good drought tolerance and performs particularly well in warm, sunny locations.
We recommend pairing it with Salvia, Lavender and Verbena bonariensis, whose contrasting flower shapes and softer shades complement the distinctive dark blooms while creating a varied summer display.

Growing at a glance…
Our agapanthus potted plants can be grown directly outside in the border or into a container on arrival. Dig a hole that’s big enough to house the root system in your desired planting spot, at the same depth as they are in their pot. Wedge the plant in by adding soil to the gaps left, firming the plant down gently to ensure it’s in place. These perennials will flower from early summer through to mid-autumn. Mulch well with compost or organic matter for winter protection. Position in full sun or partial shade.
