Product Description

Agastache mexicana Summerlong Lilac is a compact, upright perennial with softly aromatic green foliage and lilac-pink, tubular flower spires. The fresh colouring suits both contemporary and cottage-style schemes, while the fine foliage adds lightness among bolder planting. Its neat, mounded habit fits the front or middle of borders, gravel gardens and large containers, providing long-lasting interest without overpowering neighbouring plants.

Reaching around 50 cm in height and spread, it flowers from June to September, often extending into early autumn. It performs best in full sun, where growth remains compact and flowering is strongest. Once established, Summerlong Lilac tolerates heat and short dry spells, making it suitable for warmer, sheltered positions and lower-maintenance planting. The nectar-rich flowers attract bees and other pollinators throughout the season.

Plant in well-drained soil, avoiding heavy or waterlogged ground, particularly over winter. Light, sandy or gravelly soils are ideal, and overly rich conditions should be avoided to maintain a tidy habit. It combines well with Salvia, Echinacea and Rudbeckia, as well as ornamental grasses and Mediterranean plants such as Lavender and Perovskia.

Growing at a glance…

Unpack your plants immediately upon arrival and give them a little water if they feel a bit dry. Pot on for 2-3 weeks before planting them out into their final positions outdoors. Alternatively, you can plant these plugs directly outdoors if the weather permits (all risk of frost is gone). Water these plants freely during the growing season and make sure to dead-head spent flowers regularly to prolong their display.
