Product Description
A dense carpet of fern like foliage surrounding handsome feathery plumes of soft pink flowers. Quite simply a gardeners dream. Compact semi-dwarf varieties bred for their beautiful dark foliage, Astilbes are quick growing and maintain a compact habit. They are free flowering and very hardy and pest resistant. Snails don't like them, but their delicious fragrance will attract plenty of bees and other pollinators. Native to mountain ravines and woodlands in Asia and North America they are very tolerant of shade and thrive in damp locations, so are ideal for placing near a pond but equally are impressive and well suited to being grown in containers or as part of a border display. Height 40-50cm. First grade loose roots supplied.

Growing at a glance…
Astilbes are often chosen for borders due to their gorgeous colour and short stature. If clumps become too large for the space, you can divide and replant in fresh soil in Autumn. Plant in well dug, prepared soil, and add a little manure or organic matter if possible. Astilbes thrive in damp locations, particularly at the edge of a pond, but are also great for containers or borders. Soak roots in a bucket of water for 2-3 hours before planting. Dig a hole in the border that’s big enough to house the root system. Firm in gently and water well.
