Growing at a glance…
Plant seeds directly outdoors early through mid-spring (March to May) in a sunny location. Poppy's don't transplant well, so growing them directly outside is perfect for them to thrive. Ensure the soil is well-drained. Mix seeds with a cup of sand or soil and scatter them lightly over planting area. Lightly rake into soil or cover lightly to a depth of 0.5cm. Can be sown in the autumn in mild winter areas, where they will self seed and survive the winter perfectly. Keep the soil moist during germination. When plants are about 3cm tall, thin 15-20cm apart to get the best display. Will thrive without constant attention. Cut off dead flowers once spent to keep the display looking uniform and help promote regular flowering.
