Product Description
Dahlia 'Nuit d’Été' bears deep, velvety dark‑red to almost black blooms for a dramatic and moody aesthetic. The plant typically reaches 90cm-1.2 m tall with a spread up to about a metre, giving it commanding presence at the back of a border or as a bold statement in a large container or mixed bed. Its semi‑cactus flowers are composed of narrow, pointed petals that curve slightly to form sculptural, textured heads for strong visual impact.
This Dahlia prefers fertile, humus‑rich, moist yet well‑drained soil and thrives under full sun or in a bright, sheltered spot - conditions that support rich growth and deep, saturated blooms. It flowers from July through to October, offering a long season of dark colour.
For striking contrast and maximum effect, position ‘Nuit d’Été’ beside lighter, airy or grey‑toned foliage and grasses - the darkness of its flowers will pop against silvery leaves or pale planting schemes. Its dramatic form and tone also suit cutting gardens and moody, late‑summer planting schemes where saturated colour and structural drama are the goal.

Growing at a glance…
Dahlia tubers can be planted outdoors, 10cm deep in fertile well-drained soil in spring when the frost has disappeared. They prefer to be in a sunny location and spaced at approximately 45cm apart. In areas where there is extreme cold, dig up dahlias and store in potting compost over the winter. Apply a high potash fertiliser every few weeks in the summer to help growth. Dead head when necessary.
