Product Description

Graceful and quietly distinctive, Dahlia ‘Platinum Blonde’ brings an air of refinement to summer displays. An anemone-flowered dahlia recognised by the RHS, it forms a bushy, clump-forming perennial reaching around 1.5 metres in height and spreading to about a metre. Equally at home in mixed borders or cutting gardens, it balances structure and softness with effortless composure.

 

The blooms are finely poised in detail: crisp white ray florets surround a dense heart of creamy butter-yellow tubular florets, producing a subtle interplay of tone and texture. Flowering freely from midsummer until the first frosts, it sustains visual interest well into autumn, when its pale hues lend a gentle light to fading borders.

 

Thriving in full sun and fertile, moist but well-drained soil, ‘Platinum Blonde’ rewards with reliable growth and refined charm. Its muted palette complements pastel perennials, silvery grasses, or deep-toned foliage plants such as Salvia, Nepeta or Verbena bonariensis, creating calm contrast among more vibrant companions.

Growing at a glance…

Dahlia tubers can be planted outdoors, 10cm deep in fertile well-drained soil in spring when the frost has disappeared. They prefer to be in a sunny location and spaced at approximately 45cm apart. In areas where there is extreme cold, dig up dahlias and store in potting compost over the winter. Apply a high potash fertiliser every few weeks in the summer to help growth. Dead head when necessary.
