Brilliant blue flowers make Johnson’s Blue a classic for a reason. This clump-forming perennial reaches heights of around 30 cm, spreading up to 60 cm, with mid-green, deeply lobed foliage that holds its shape well through the season.

From early summer into autumn, saucer-shaped blooms open in loose clusters, each petal lightly veined and roughly 5 cm across. The colour deepens in full sun but holds reliably in part shade, and plants are fully hardy, showing excellent vigour across a wide range of soil types, including loam, chalk, clay and sand.

Awarded the RHS AGM, it’s a dependable performer that attracts pollinators and responds well to light trimming after flowering. It also offers good weed suppression once established, with a low, mounding habit that lends itself naturally to informal borders or container schemes.

We suggest pairing this dependable geranium with taller perennials like salvia or verbascum for vertical contrast, or soften the effect with alchemilla or low-growing grasses.
