Product Description

Gladiolus ‘Gladdies Emmy’ brings soft, uplifting colour and neat vertical structure to summer borders and containers. Upright spikes carry rows of funnel-shaped florets in clear pink, each bloom gently flushed with yellow at the throat for a warm two-tone effect. The flowers open progressively along the stems above tidy fans of sword-like foliage, delivering the classic presence of Gladiolus in a more compact form.

Flowering from July to September, ‘Emmy’ provides dependable midsummer interest as earlier perennials begin to fade. These Gladioli can reach heights of around 60 cm and develop naturally sturdy stems that typically hold without support. Its manageable stature makes it easy to weave through mixed borders or feature in patio containers where height and colour are needed without overwhelming surrounding planting.

This variety thrives in sunny positions with fertile, moist but well-drained soil, where warmth encourages strong growth and consistent flowering. The upright spikes sit comfortably among relaxed perennials and ornamental grasses, pairing particularly well with plants such as Salvia, Nepeta and Gaura that soften the vertical lines while extending texture and movement through the display.

Growing at a glance…

Plant gladioli about 10-15cm deep and about 10-15cm apart, in fertile/well drained soil in autumn or spring. When planting in a heavy soil, place some sand underneath each corm to help with drainage. You can water regularly as the growth begins to appear and you can dead head when flowers begin to die off, though make sure to leave foliage to grow throughout the summer. In late autumn when frosty and cold nights are likely to return, you should lift and dry the corms and store over the winter in a frost free shed/garage until ready to plant again next year.
