Product Description

Narcissus ‘Shrike’ brings a striking, almost sculptural quality to spring planting. Its white petals frame a dramatically split, ruffled corona in warm orange flushed with soft pink tones. This butterfly-type daffodil creates an intricate, layered centre with an almost double appearance, giving the flower a complex, textured presence that differs markedly from more traditional forms.

Mid-spring flowering, typically through March and April, sees ‘Shrike’ reaching around 35 cm in height. Each stem carries a single, well-sized bloom, held above glaucous green, strap-like foliage. It performs reliably in full sun or partial shade and grows well in most soils provided they are well-drained and not prone to prolonged winter wet, returning consistently once established.

We suggest pairing ‘Shrike’ with deep maroon or near-black Tulips to intensify its warm centre, or with Helleborus and Pulmonaria to echo and soften its pink and cream palette at ground level. In lighter schemes, it can be combined with Anemone blanda and low grasses, particularly in sunny, free-draining borders.

Growing at a glance…

Daffodils (or narcissi) are both easy to grow and incredibly reliable. Like many bulbs, it takes very little time to plant them. Remove any weeds in the area you'd like to plant your bulbs and dig at the soil to aerate it. Fork in some organic matter to improve the drainage and soil structure. Daffodils prefer sunny spots and well-drained soil, so keep this in mind when planting. Plant each bulb 2-3 times the bulbs height and place it with the shoot facing upwards. Space them twice their width apart. Cover with soil and water if the ground is dry.
