Product Description

Onion Red Burgundy is your typical red onion, producing attractive deep red, flat-shaped crops with a mildly sweet flavour. An ideal choice for any salad, sandwich, or recipe! Plant nearby any lettuce, cabbage or carrot to ward off unwanted pests and insects. Can be sown indoors from February to April, or outside from March. Sowing directly outside is possible but not recommended. Start seeds off in modules indoors so temperatures can be controlled for a successful transplant.

Growing at a glance…

Start in early spring indoors or in a heated greenhouse roughly 8-10 weeks before transplanting outdoors. When transplanting, clip plants to 5-7cm and plant 5cm deep. Can be sown directly outside once the ground has warmed in mid-late spring, at 2-3 seeds every 2cm. Ensure its soil is moist and fertile, as this will produce the best crop. Thin roughly 10-12cm apart when plants are 15-20cm tall. Harvest once they grow to a tennis ball size.
