Product Description
A long-flowering favourite for soft summer colour, Scabiosa 'Butterfly Blue' has a delicate presence that works beautifully in relaxed planting schemes. Its lavender-blue pincushion blooms rise on slender stems above finely divided green foliage, flowering from June through October to bring an airy succession of colour through summer and into early autumn.
At around 40 cm tall, this compact perennial fits neatly into the front of borders, edging and patio containers. Full sun is ideal, with well-drained, moderately fertile soil supporting its best performance, while its drought tolerance once established makes it a useful choice for lower-water planting. The flowers are also rich in nectar and pollen, making it an excellent addition to a pollinator-friendly garden.
For contrasting form and texture, combine Scabiosa 'Butterfly Blue' with the flat flower heads of Achillea, the upright spires of Salvias or the bold blooms of Echinaceas. Gaura and ornamental grasses offer a lighter, more relaxed pairing, while Geranium can reinforce its soft, informal character.
