Also known as ‘Herbstfreude’, Sedum ‘Autumn Joy’ revels in its RHS Award of Garden Merit. This hardy herbaceous perennial forms a tidy clump of fleshy, glaucous green leaves and grows to around 40-60 cm with a similar spread. From July through August, its star-shaped flowers open as greenish-pink buds, then deepen to raspberry-pink, and finally mature to a rich golden-bronze, creating a dramatic late-summer display in borders, rockeries or containers.

This Sedum’s flat, terminal flower clusters are not only striking in the garden but also perfect for cutting, bringing autumnal colour and texture into indoor floral arrangements. Its sturdy, disease- and pest-resistant stems hold the blooms aloft, offering architectural interest and seasonal charm without requiring extensive care.

For a visually appealing composition, you can pair Sedum ‘Autumn Joy’ with ornamental grasses, late-flowering Asters, or compact Salvia varieties to extend colour and contrast while highlighting the evolving hues of its starry flowers.
