Growing at a glance…
Sow into position outdoors as soon as the ground is pliable after winter (this is usually in April). Sow a second crop several weeks after the first for a later harvest, providing more vegetables for your kitchen. Cover seeds with 1cm of fine soil and space rows 10-15cm apart. When young seedlings are roughly 5cm tall, thin about 15-20cm apart. Germination will roughly take 14 to 21 days or longer, depending upon soil and weather conditions. They're ready for harvest when turnips are no larger than 3 inches in diameter.
