Growing at a glance…
Prune grape plants in winter to keep them at a manageable height and again in mid summer if necessary. They may require training as they grow, due to their climbing habit. The vitis (Grape) vines can be grown in well drained neutral or slightly alkali humus rich soil. They prefer to be located in a sunny position or in light shade. Seedless grapes are a natural mutation that prevents the young seeds from maturing and developing a hard coat. This is what is typically seen in supermarkets. However, even seedless varieties do sometimes produce small numbers of seeds, which allows new varieties to be crossbred.
