Growing at a glance…

Dahlia tubers can be planted outdoors, 10cm deep in fertile well-drained soil in spring when the frost has disappeared. They prefer to be in a sunny location and spaced at approximately 45cm apart. In areas where there is extreme cold, dig up dahlias and store in potting compost over the winter. Apply a high potash fertiliser every few weeks in the summer to help growth. Dead head when necessary.

Where to Plant

Dahlia tubers are best grown in a sunny spot in the garden when all risk of frost has passed. This can be mid to late spring, usually around late May. They can then be planted out into their final position once it begins to grow shoots.

How to Plant

Tubers are easy to grow. They look a bit strange when they arrive in the post, but with a bit of nurturing, they’ll grow to be big and fabulous! Make sure to plant out once all risk of frost has passed in the spring. Pot up before planting into their final position and water well after planting.
