Astilbes are often chosen for borders due to their gorgeous colour and short stature. If clumps become too large for the space, you can divide and replant in fresh soil in Autumn. Plant in well dug, prepared soil, and add a little manure or organic matter if possible. Astilbes thrive in damp locations, particularly at the edge of a pond, but are also great for containers or borders.
