Product Description
Delicate yet vibrant, Azalea japonica Lilac brings soft lilac blooms to the spring garden, with clusters of small, funnel-shaped flowers appearing from April into May. These graceful blooms contrast beautifully against a backdrop of rich, evergreen foliage that holds its colour year-round. Flowering in early to mid-spring, it adds lift just as bulbs fade.
This compact shrub thrives in moist, well-drained, acidic, humus-rich soils; it tolerates loam or sand but not strongly alkaline conditions. Ideal for light woodland settings or shaded containers, it prefers dappled shade to protect foliage and blooms from harsh sun. It eventually reaches around 75-100 cm in height and spread, forming a tidy, rounded shape.
We suggest pairing this Azalea with other acid-loving plants like Callunas, Astilbes or Ferns to build layered, woodland-style planting that supports pollinators.
