Bletilla striata, also known as Chinese Ground Orchid, is the perfect compact plant for the garden. Winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Produces small pink flowers, each with a central trumpet that's surrounded by four to five petals. Perfect for borders, containers, and even rockeries.

In mild areas, this orchid may be grown in well drained sandy peat in a sunny position, best results, however, are obtained by growing in cold frame or greenhouse, for this, pot in compost of loam and leaf mould. During the summer months the plants can be brought into the open. Grow in fertile, well drained and humus rich soil.
