Product Description
Chionodoxa luciliae 'Violet Beauty' makes a charming early-season display, with upright stems carrying clusters of star-shaped, pale violet flowers, each centred with a soft white eye. Emerging above pairs of narrow green leaves, the blooms appear in March and April, bringing fresh colour to the garden just as everything is waking up. Its petite, naturalistic habit is particularly effective when planted in groups.
Also known as Scilla or glory-of-the-snow, this perennial bulb reaches around 20 cm in height with a spread of up to 10 cm. It thrives in full sun or partial shade and prefers moist but well-drained soil, growing in chalk, clay, loam or sand. Its compact scale makes it especially versatile for rockeries, gravel gardens, borders and containers, where the flowers can be appreciated close-up.
The soft violet colouring combines beautifully with other spring-flowering plants, including Anemone, Muscari and Narcissus, creating a layered display of complementary shapes and tones. 'Violet Beauty' is also well suited to naturalising in grass, where its flowers can create an informal swathe of early-season colour.
