Product Description
Crocus tommasinianus, or the early crocus, is a delightful herald of spring. Its slender, goblet-shaped flowers appear from February to April, often emerging before the fine, grass-like foliage. Shades range from soft lilac to reddish purple, with a silvery outer sheen that catches the light and brings a subtle charm to lawns, rockeries and informal borders.
Reaching around 10 cm in height, this early-flowering species is ideal for naturalising. It spreads gently over time by offsets and seed, forming low, expanding carpets that return reliably each year. Even after flowering, the foliage adds delicate texture to the early-season garden before fading back.
Crocus tommasinianus thrives in well-drained soil and prefers full sun, though it will tolerate partial shade, especially beneath deciduous trees. As one of the first nectar sources of the year, it supports early pollinators such as bees emerging on mild spring days.
Hardy, long-lived and low-maintenance, this Crocus brings both colour and ecological value to the very start of the growing season.
