Product Description

Iris hollandica ‘King Mauve’ brings soft late-spring colour and vertical structure to mixed planting, its lilac-mauve petals opening above a clear golden-yellow throat that gives each bloom a bright central focus. Strong stems carry the flowers cleanly above the foliage, with buds opening in succession to extend the seasonal display.

This Dutch Iris grows to heights of around 60 cm, sitting comfortably within the middle of the border, where the upright clump of narrow, sword-like leaves provides a neat vertical base beneath the flowering stems. The overall habit remains compact and orderly, allowing the blooms to stand clearly above surrounding planting without visual competition.

Thriving in full sun and free-draining soil, Iris ‘King Mauve’ establishes reliable flowering performance year after year once settled. It combines well with Tulips and Alliums for layered bulb succession, while Nepetas, Salvias and ornamental grasses soften the vertical lines and extend colour and movement into early summer.

Growing at a glance…

Bulbs are to be planted 8cm deep and about 10-12cm apart, in well-drained soil. Ensure the bulbs are planted somewhere that has plenty of access to sun. For best results, plant your Iris bulbs from mid to late autumn to then see them flower in early spring or mid-summer. Take some care to prevent slugs and snails from attacking the iris once planted. Most Dutch iris are only suitable for planting in the garden or in a cool greenhouse or a cold frame.
