Product Description
Jasminum nudiflorum offers welcome colour and presence in the garden at a time of year often lacking interest. Flowering between January and March, clear yellow blooms open along bare, arching stems before the leaves appear, highlighting stem colour and structure in winter planting.
A medium-sized, deciduous shrub with a naturally spreading habit, it typically reaches up to 2.5 metres in height and spread. The flexible stems can be trained against walls or low supports, or allowed to trail over banks and the front of borders, where the relaxed form remains legible in winter light without dominating neighbouring plants.
Fully hardy and a recipient of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, winter jasmine is straightforward to grow, thriving in most well-drained soils, including chalk and clay, and performing best in full sun to partial shade.
It pairs well with early bulbs such as Snowdrops and Crocus, which rise through its stems, and with evergreen shrubs that intensify the effect of the flowers. Used alongside structural shrubs and perennials, it maintains winter interest through to the start of spring.
