Magnolia soulangeana, also known as the Saucer Magnolia or Chinese Magnolia, is a striking variety, perfect for adding character and elegance to smaller gardens. A popular and hardy variety that produces eye-catching goblet-shaped white-pink flowers from April that then flourish and open out into a deep saucer shape with a pink-purple base through to May. The beautiful flowers stand on sturdy branches, where dark green leaves then flourish when the flowers begin to fall. A low spreading shapely tree, it reaches a mature height of 3m and can even be planted in large containers for patios or decking if needed. 25-30cm tall plant, supplied in 12cm pot.

Little pruning is required for these magnificent shrubs, but if required you can prune lightly once the flowers have faded. It is often recommended that you provide some protection from strong winds, and provide a mulch in early spring. Do not allow plants to dry out in hot weather and water regularly.Plant in moist, acid-to-neutral soil in full sun or partial shaded areas. Shallow planting is required for magnolia bushes, in areas that have really good drainage.
